Attendance: In order for your child to get the most out of Pre-K and Elementary, regular attendance is imperative. We know that children will be ill and have to miss from time-to-time, and we will work with you on these occasions. However, we encourage you to see that your child attends unless he or she is ill.
School Schedule: At the beginning of each school year, your child will receive a copy of the Oak Hill Academy Handbook. This handbook will contain a wide variety of information for your use including a school calendar for the year. Elementary classes will begin at 8:05 a.m. and end at 2:50 p.m. Monday - Friday. You are requested to pick up your child no later than 3:00 p.m. each day.
Snacks: Each child will need to bring a snack for the afternoon recess or they may purchase a snack from the elementary building.
Lunch: Lunches are available for purchase in the cafeteria. Students who wish to bring lunches may do so. All students will eat together in the cafeteria. You may purchase a meal ticket for the week, and please make checks out to Valley Foods.
Conferences and Grading: Conferences concerning your child are welcome at any time, and they may be initiated by the parents or the teachers. If you would like a conference, please call the Elementary Principal's office for a date and time. If the teacher feels a conference is needed then she will contact the parents. If we are to be successful, parents and teachers must work closely together.
Homeroom Mothers: At the beginning of the school year, mothers from each Pre-K - 5th grade class will be asked to serve as Homeroom Mothers. Homeroom Mothers will organize parties, but every mother will be asked to participate.
Birthdays: Birthdays are very special days to our elementary students and we want to help make it a day to remember. Parents may send cupcakes, ice cream or other appropriate treats for your child, but they must be sent to the office the day of.
Medication:
If a student has a medical problem that the school needs to be aware of, parents
should notify the teacher and the office. All students are required by law to
have a State of Mississippi Certificate of Compliance (blue slip) on file in the
office.
NO MEDICATION WILL BE GIVEN AT SCHOOL.
Preparing for School: It is very important that a child feels good and positive about school and the things that he is doing at school. The parent is a key player here and can do more that anyone else to help create this positive feeling. Talk about school and assure him that he will like school. A visit or two to school before school starts will help to make it a ore familiar place. Explain that school is a place where he will work and play and that learning can be fun. Do not tell him how much you will miss him but how proud you are that he is going to school. Be assured that our teachers will work closely with you and your child during the transition period.
Early dismissal: Students will be in class from 8:05 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. unless parents request early dismissal. If you plan to take your child out of school early or you plan to have someone else pick your child up prior to the regular dismissal time, you are requested to contact the Elementary Principal's office, and he or she will make appropriate arrangements.
Visitor and Messages: Oak Hill Academy believes that uninterrupted teaching time is essential if students are to receive the greatest benefit from instruction given; therefore, we guard this time carefully. If a parent has a message or package for his/her child, the parent id requested to leave the note of item with the office personnel. They will see that the message is delivered.
